What are the minimum GPA requirements for transfer applicants to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities?
Transfer applicants must typically have a cumulative college GPA of 2.50 or higher for general admission consideration. However, competitive GPA thresholds vary by college and major; technical and professional programs such as the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) or Carlson School of Management generally require a 3.00 to 3.50+ cumulative GPA along with specific prerequisite coursework.
How do college credits transfer to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities?
College-level coursework completed with a grade of C- or higher at regionally accredited institutions generally transfers to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Official credit evaluations are completed by academic advisors following admission. Prospective students can preview course equivalencies using Transferology prior to applying. At least 30 degree credits must be earned directly in residence at the Twin Cities campus to graduate.
Are transfer students eligible for financial aid and scholarships?
Yes, transfer students are eligible for federal, state, and institutional financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Minnesota Dream Act application using school code 002388. Admitted transfer students are automatically considered for university-wide transfer merit scholarships if they submit a complete application by the priority deadline. Additional need-based grants and college-specific scholarships are available upon admission.
What documents are required to complete a transfer student application?
A complete transfer application requires the University of Minnesota Transfer Application, official academic transcripts from every post-secondary institution attended, and a non-refundable application fee or approved fee waiver. Applicants with fewer than 26 completed post-secondary semester credits at the time of application must also submit an official high school transcript.
