Congratulations! We are excited to welcome you to our Golden Gopher community.
Confirm your Enrollment
After you’ve received word from our Office of Admissions, that you’ve officially been admitted to the University of Minnesota, your next step is to confirm your enrollment by submitting the enrollment confirmation form and fee of $80 to the Office of Admissions.
OR
Send your form and payment to:
Office of Admissions
240 Williamson Hall
231 Pillsbury Drive SE
Minneapolis, MN 55455
Once that is complete, you should begin setting up your official U of M Email Account.
Activate your New Student Account
The ‘official’ means of communication at the U of M is email. Activate your account now. After activation you’ll receive important information about your upcoming Transfer Orientation experience, campus welcome events, and other ‘need-to-know’ information. After activation, return to your email account to get updated information regularly throughout the semester.
Housing Options
There are several different opportunities for living on or around campus. To make it simple, here are two places to start.
- To live on campus as a new transfer student you should Apply Today. New transfers have options to apply to be part of a specific Living Learning Community (i.e. Leaders in Transition)or to live on campus near other new transfers. Either way, get your application in early in order to secure a spot.
- Much of what the university considers as off-campus is within walking distance or a short bus ride to campus. Check out the off-campus housing link to start your search and explore these opportunities.
Apply for Financial Aid
Understanding your student account is essential. Learn the basics and apply for aid. Have questions regarding your student account? Connect with our Onestop Student Services office.
Are you a resident of North Dakota, South Dakotas, Wisconsin, or Manitoba, Canada? Be sure to apply for reciprocity prior to the semester/term in which you plan to register.
Send your Final Transcripts
In order to be admitted you likely submitted an official transcript or two from a previous institution(s). However, you may have had courses listed as ‘in-progress’ if you sent a transcript while you were still attending your previous school. Once you’ve received final grades from your previous coursework, be sure to send a fresh copy of your transcript with all your completed courses to the address below.

Note: If you have Advanced Placement (AP) test(s) or International Baccalaureate (IB) credit from high school you will need to send official copies of these test scores to the U of M, even if they appear on transcripts from your previous college or university. You can find more information regarding how these credits transfer to the U of M on the Office of Admissions website.
Prepare for Orientation
Orientation & Transition Experiences and your college of admission are your main contacts as you prepare to begin classes at the U of M. Check out this information for incoming transfer students to learn more about the orientation process and get started on your New Student Checklist.
Connect with other New Transfers
Facebook- UMN Transfer Student Group
The UMN Transfer Facebook Group is a great place to start connecting to new transfers before you even arrive at orientation. Introduce yourself and find other students who are preparing or have previously transferred to ask them about their expectations and experiences.
Attend Transfer Welcome Day and Welcome Week
Be sure to check out Transfer Welcome Day in January (for spring transfers) and Welcome Week Transfer Track (for spring and fall transfers) at the start of fall semester to connect with other new transfer students and learn about campus resources.
